FAQs – OH Veteran Caregiver Support
As Operation Homefront sunsets its Veteran Caregiver Support program, we are working with the Elizabeth Dole Foundation to transition caregivers to their best-in-class programs. Below please find a list of questions and answers about this process. If you have a question that is not addressed below, please feel free to email Operation Homefront at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q: Why are you sunsetting the VCS program?
A: In reviewing participation in the Veteran Caregiver Support program, we have noticed a continual decline in participation and interest in our regional retreat programming. In addition, interest in our support groups has been waning. Given those considerations, we have decided to sunset our Veteran Caregiver Support program and use those valuable resources to support programs in high demand, while proactively assisting our VCS participants to transition to the Elizabeth Dole Foundation caregiver program.
Q: When will the program officially end?
A: Our plan is to completely sunset the caregiver program by Jan 5, 2022. To transition to the Elizabeth Dole Foundation, they have helped us set up a special web page to welcome caregivers from our program. If you are not already a part of their Hidden Heroes program, please sign up here. Each participant will have until Jan 5 to make the transition before our website and Facebook groups are shut down.
Q: When will Facebook groups shut down?
A: Each participant will have until the end of the year to make the transition before our website and Facebook groups begin to be shut down.
Q: Will I still be able to participate in OH programs and services?
A: Operations Homefront’s Critical Financial Assistance, Transitional and Permanent Housing programs, as well as other Recurring Family Support programs will continue to welcome eligible families; caregiver profiles who have participated in those programs will remain in the My Operation Homefront system. If you are experiencing a financial struggle, we encourage you to find out more and apply for help through our Critical Financial Assistance program at https://operationhomefront.org/critical-financial-assistance/ . If, for some reason, we are unable to help you, our caseworkers will try to connect you with other resources for assistance.
Q: How do I connect with Elizabeth Dole Foundation?
A: To transition to the Elizabeth Dole Foundation and learn more about their programs for caregivers, they have helped us set up a special web page to welcome you. Please find out more and sign up here.
Q: What if I want to stay connected with my support group/Facebook group?
A: We will keep the Facebook groups open until Jan 5. If you wish to remain connected with caregivers in those groups, you are welcome to share information privately, start a group of your own or look for a similar opportunity with the Elizabeth Dole Foundation.
Q: Can I still volunteer for Operation Homefront?
A: Yes, you may continue to volunteer with Operation Homefront and any of our programs. We appreciate your support and encourage you to continue being a valuable volunteer team member.
