CFA Process
Beginning January 2026, the Critical Financial Assistance (CFA) application process has been updated to improve clarity, consistency, and communication for military families. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis after the application window closes, and applicants will be contacted directly by a caseworker during the review process.
Application Window
(1st through the 10th of each month)
- The CFA application opens on the 1st and closes at 11:59 PM CST on the 10th of each month.
- Applications must be submitted through My Operation Homefront during this window to be considered.
- Only complete applications submitted during this time will move forward for review.
Caseworker Contact and Application Review
(After the 10th of each month)
- Applications are reviewed as processing is completed, rather than waiting for the end of the month.
- A caseworker will reach out by phone to establish contact, verify information, and clarify needs.
- Applicants may be asked to provide additional information or documentation as part of the review.
This updated approach allows applications to move forward as they are ready, rather than in fixed review phases.
Decision Notification
This updated approach allows applications to move forward as they are ready, rather than in fixed review phases.
- Approved applicants will receive information about next steps and assistance details.
- Applicants who are not approved will be provided with guidance on alternative resources, when available.
- Applicants who are not approved may reapply during the next monthly application window if their situation changes or a new eligible need arises.
