Do you think about your legacy? This decorated Navy pilot did, and it includes Operation Homefront
Thomas “Tom” M. Harvey served as a Navy pilot in Vietnam. As a lieutenant, he earned numerous awards ― including the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Stars ― in his time flying with the Black Knights, a helicopter anti-submarine squadron. Enemy fire struck his helicopter 13 times.
As a civilian, Tom kept to the air, flying commercial jetliners until his retirement in 2003. His career allowed him to continue traveling the world and serving people, two of his passions.

Tom was also passionate about organizations that benefit service members, and he wanted to leave a legacy of support for those causes. He left 80 percent of his estate to charity, and he included Operation Homefront in his will.
Proceeds from the sale of his Illinois home support Operation Homefront’s mission to ensure that military families have access to the support and resources they need to stay strong, stable, and secure in the face of adversity.
One of Tom’s nephews expressed pride that his uncle is part of a lasting legacy that supports worthy causes. He said that though his estate is “much more modest” than his uncle’s, he would also like to leave a gift to Operation Homefront.
