Operation Homefront and Dollar Tree Inc. have joined forces for the 11th consecutive year to collect school supplies for military children for the national nonprofit’s Back-to-School Brigade®

“We at Dollar Tree are grateful to our customers for their generous support as we continue our national partnership with Operation Homefront,” said Chelle Davis, Dollar Tree spokesperson. “It’s an honor to work alongside this wonderful nonprofit once again and to support military families through their annual Back-to-School Brigade® program.”

School supply costs continue to trend upward in the United States. Families spent an average of $510 for school supplies in 2018 – up from $501 in 2017 and $488 in 2016. The Back-to-School Brigade®, which has distributed more than 350,000 backpacks since the program’s inception, helps to alleviate the financial burden for military families by providing backpacks with a variety of needed supplies, including pens, pencils, paper, scissors, and binders.

“This year marks the 11th year we are partnering with Dollar Tree and their caring customers to deliver backpacks full of school supplies to military kids through our annual Back-to-School Brigade® campaign,” said Brig. Gen. (ret.) John I. Pray Jr., president, and CEO of Operation Homefront. “I am incredibly proud to say we will reach our 375,000th backpack milestone and will have saved military families over $40 million in back-to-school expenses. By working with an amazing Dollar Tree team, we are able to help military families thrive – not simply struggle to get by – in the communities they have worked so hard to protect.”

Dollar Tree is a longtime supporter of our nation’s military families. Since the partnership began in 2006, Dollar Tree and its generous customers have provided millions of dollars of financial and in-kind support to recurring programs. Moreover, Dollar Tree has supported Operation Homefront’s Critical Financial Assistance program for military families in need.
