Greatest Needs Fund
Military and veteran families live in a world of constant change. Economic uncertainty, inflation, deployments, natural disasters, and unexpected disruptions can quickly create new challenges for families who have already sacrificed so much in service to our nation.
When the needs of military families change, our ability to respond depends on access to flexible resources. For Operation Homefront, the most powerful flexible resource is unrestricted funding through our Greatest Needs Fund. We utilize these generous donations to meet families, when and where they need support most urgently. Unlike restricted gifts designated for a specific program or geographic area, gifts to the Greatest Needs Fund allow Operation Homefront to direct resources to the areas with the most meaningful impact. This ensures military and veteran families, who selflessly defend our nation, receive timely assistance during moments of financial stress and transition.
This flexibility proved critical in the last year. As economic uncertainty grew and the government shutdown took hold, demand for financial assistance sharply increased, but Operation Homefront was able to answer the call for help for hundreds of additional families and provide support to more families because donors trusted us with flexible funding. That trust enabled us to act quickly, adapt effectively, and continue delivering meaningful impact.
An Investment in Readiness
General mission support, through our Greatest Needs Fund, is more than a donation—it is an investment in readiness. And readiness is core to what makes our Armed Forces the most powerful in the world. Together, we can remain responsive, resilient, and ready to serve those who serve our nation.
Make An Impact Now
THE POWER OF PEOPLE
One of Operation Homefront’s greatest strengths is its team of dedicated caseworkers and professionals who work directly with military and veteran families in need. Most of them have served themselves or have a direct connection to military service through an immediate family member. While programs deliver resources, it is our people who assess needs, identify solutions, connect families with support, and help ensure assistance creates lasting impact. They are
often the first point of contact for families facing hardship and the trusted guides who help them navigate difficult circumstances.
Support through the Greatest Needs Fund makes it possible to maintain and strengthen this frontline support infrastructure—the “special sauce” that transforms assistance into meaningful, sustainable solutions. Investing in talented, experienced staff is essential to delivering life-changing outcomes, and it is part of what makes Operation Homefront unique and effective.
“Unrestricted support does not mean unrestricted accountability. It means empowering a trusted organization to respond strategically, efficiently, and effectively as needs emerge,”
– Retired Rear Adm. Alan Reyes, President and CEO of Operation Homefront
With a gift to our Greatest Needs Fund, Operation Homefront is able to help military families in a variety of ways:
- Stabilize After the Unexpected
Military families cannot predict when life will change—and neither can we. - Navigate Government Disruptions & Uncertainty
Government shutdowns and funding disruptions can create financial stress and uncertainty for military families. - Respond to National Security Events, Deployments, & Conflict
Periods of heightened military activity, increased deployments, or international conflict can create immediate demands on service members and their families. - Weather Economic Challenges
Inflation, rising housing costs, and other economic pressures continue to impact military families at every rank. As financial challenges grow, demand for emergency assistance increases. - Proactively React to Natural Disasters & Emergency Response
When hurricanes, floods, wildfires, or other disasters strike, National Guard members are frequently activated to serve their communities. At the same time, military families in affected areas may need immediate support. - Visionary & Innovative
Operation Homefront needs to be responsive to military families’ needs, now and in the future.
TRUSTED STEWARDSHIP. MEASURABLE IMPACT.
When corporations, foundations, and individual donors invest in general mission support, they are placing their confidence in Operation Homefront’s ability to make informed, mission-driven decisions on behalf of military and veteran families.
That confidence is well placed. In 2025, 85% of Operation Homefront’s expenditures directly supported programs and services, reflecting our ongoing commitment to stewardship, accountability, transparency, and measurable impact.
