Navy Spouse Finds Community at Baby Shower

In her 13 years as a military spouse, Amberly Davis and husband Christopher, a Navy petty officer first class, have grown their family through the challenges of four separate deployments, including one during the birth of their third child.

“He left when I was four and a half months pregnant and returned when she was 4 months old,” Amberly said.

Throughout her husband’s military service, he and Amberly have grown their family, which now includes five children. The oldest is 14, and the youngest is just 2 months. They live in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

When pregnant with their newborn, Amberly attended her fourth Operation Homefront Star-Spangled Babies® event, dedicated to supporting service members and their growing families.

Operation Homefront collaborated with event sponsor  Armada Hoffler to execute the Virgina Beach Star-Spangled Babies shower, which served 50 military families at the Westin Town Center.

“I am very appreciative. It gives me a morning out, stress free, and it’s just really nice to be a part of an environment that wants to support you.” – Amberlyn Davis, Navy spouse

Volunteers from Armada Hoffler, a commercial real estate investment firm, prepared handmade sensory toys, bibs, and knitted hats, while also packing 50 baby bundles for the event.

Volunteers from NIN provided each mom with a newborn bundle; Infantino donated an activity gym for each new mom. Donations also were received from Astro Entertainment for the DJ services, Munchkin, Motif Medical, WubbaNub, and Tactical Baby Gear.

Amberly first heard of the Star-Spangled Babies event on social media in 2017 when she was pregnant with her now-6-year-old. Her first event was in person. The next two were drive-thru events during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

She was excited to attend this most recent event in person.

“It was very fun,” she said. “It’s always fun to see the new moms, being able to talk to them and hearing the info that event organizers always have for everyone.”

Amberly has attended other events hosted by Operation Homefront, including the Back-to-School Brigade®. Her five-year-old son was excited this year to get his first backpack. Amberlyn wants donors to know she and her family are grateful for all the support.

“I am very appreciative” Amberly said. “It gives me a morning out, stress free, and it’s just really nice to be a part of an environment that wants to support you.”

Operation Homefront’s Star-Spangled Babies program has provided vital baby supplies to over 21,000 military moms since 2008.
